A rare find. A VW Type 2 Viking Spacemaker (or known as a super-viking). Ida is an authentic VW Type 2, late bay window camper van. First registered in October 1979, (one of the last off the production line), with a 2L engine (1970cc), dual Carburettors, ‘flat 4’ petrol engine, RHD, colour, original yellow and white, with a Viking space maker roof, original internal layout. Legal capacity for 5 passengers, rear seatbelts for 3 passengers have been retrofitted lap belts, sleeping capacity 6. The Viking Spacemaker has more double height space in the centre of the rear compared to other camper vans, a huge advantage, feeling of the space, ideal when camping in wet weather. Spacious, light and airy inside with the roof up, one of the beds folds up with the roof to give much more full height space when that bed is not needed. Sleeps 6. 4 singles in the roof space for adults, a double below. Features include; Original 3-way fridge – we use as a cool box , Original 2 burner gas hob, with grill under, fed by Calor gas bottle, The cooker unit slides out of the rear compartment, to enable cooking outside, with legs that fold down to create a free-standing hob & Grill, SS Sink with tap, with plug and draining board. Tap pumped water from water bottle., Extractor fan over the hob – original factory-fitted, Internal strip lights x 2 which run off the main vehicle battery, 3 yr old Leisure battery fitted, Internal LED lights x 2 runs off the leisure battery, Electric hook up possible, interior 3-pin plug socket, Foldaway interior dining table, original interior upholstery in brown check, 2xUsb charging points, plenty of storage – storage under 3 rear seats, cupboard under sink, cutlery drawer, 2 further drawers for utensils etc. , large storage cupboards x 3, one used for the gas cannister and water bottle, Factory fitted built in water tank has not been checked or used for some time but as far as we know is still intact. Roof – Viking Spacemaker, or ‘Super-viking’ is the premium option with a solid bed which slides outwards, pushing out the roof creating in total 4 fixed beds, rises with side hinges, for access to 4 sleeping spaces, each as a single bed arrangement around the rectangular opening in the centre, beds are upholstered cushions on a hard base (as opposed to the standard Viking roof which had hammocks for sleeping), therofre allows 4 adults to sleep in the roof space or roof space to be used for sitting, roof is in good condition with 2 ‘windows’ . The main interior can be configured with all seats out, to seat 5, or with alternative arrangement for standing to cook, or can be configured to a double bed arrangement using the put-away panels, hence sleeping 6 as a maximum. Roof has 2 roof rails for extra luggage storage. Very good condition lots of service history and MOTs from 1999 onwards, based in Hampshire. Mileage - odemetor says 23172 but there are not enough numbers for more, howver we have the mileage recorded on old MOT back to 1990's which corrolates, engine and dual carbs, fuel hose, and starter motor, have been refurbished or replaced during last 3 years along with other work. Had new battery about 2 years ago. Very well preserved for its age.
